Dr. Chidi Akusobi
Chidi was born in southeastern Nigeria and grew up in the Bronx, NY. He graduated magna cum laude from Yale University with a BS in Biology and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa society his senior year. Afterwards, Chidi was awarded a Gates-Cambridge scholarship to pursue an MPhil in Biochemistry from the University of Cambridge. He next worked at TB Alliance, a non-profit drug discovery company for a year before matriculating to Harvard Medical School (HMS) for his MD-PhD degree. Chidi worked with Dr. Eric Rubin's lab studying mycobacterial genetics and successfully defended his PhD in June, 2020. He graduated with his MD-PhD in May, 2022 and will be starting his Internal Medicine residency at Massachusetts General Hospital in June, 2022.
Outside of the hospital and lab, Chidi has participated and spearheaded several initiatives to increase the pipeline of underrepresented minority students in science and medicine. He is also passionate about science communication and has discussed COVID-19 and the vaccines to the general public in various forums. As a future physician-scientist, Chidi hopes to combine clinical practice, teaching, and research that contributes to the improved treatment of infectious diseases.
